Lexx Perry Clothing Line Interview:
BLU: Tell me how you got started?
LP: I was 15 and wanted to wear the big
man linen suits and couldn’t afford it, so I saw some wicked linen
in a fabric store on Flatbush and decided to mek my own suit. Suit did
tuff. I wore it on the plane to Jamaica, and everyone thought I was
an artist. Then I started to make linen visors for friends in high school.
A couple years later I linked up with the Ouch CREW (the hottest Fashion
Crew in the History of dancehall). They schooled me on how to finish
a product and make a winning product. Then I attended FIT to brush up
on my technical skills. I realized I developed a winning product that
reflected my view of fashion. So I took a risk and invested a lot of
money into developing my brand.
BLU: What is your most important accomplishment to date?
LP: I have made some outstanding accomplishments, my most important
is that I now work for myself.
BLU: When did you decide on this career?
LP: I decided on this career definitely
about 8 years ago after other prospects weren’t as profitable.
BLU: I want to ask you this, but don't
know how to word it, but basically is it harder being of Caribbean heritage
and being in fashion. : We tend to associate fashion with gay unfortunately.
How do you get people to look past all of that and just let line sell
it self?
LP: Nobody seems to be concerned with those
stereotypes when they deal with me. The realm of fashion that I am in
which is "STREETWEAR" seems straight to me. When I am in Jamaica
or in a dance I rarely run into those arguments. Everyone love di clothes.
So that is never a wall or barrier in business for me.
BLU: What motivates you? How do you come
up with your ideas? Very fly.
LP: I have the passion for this art. That
is my ultimate motivation. But other motives are the money, the respect,
and the lights, camera, action, and the people I rub shoulders with.
The finer things in life. I love that shit.
BLU: I see celebrities rocking the line
hard...who else wears the line that you haven't photographed?
LP: Other celebrities that I haven’t
photographed are Ciara, Olivia, Heather Hunter, the winner Asia of Pussycat
Dolls, Erica Alexander. I can’t even remember all of them. But
you can look out for others like Fabulous, Young Joc, Young Jeezy, Kanye
West, Chris Brown; they will be rocking my brand for 2008
BLU: What is Lexx Perry's long-range objective?
LP: Lexx Perry's objective is to promote
good vibes and allow people to feel special and VIP. There are too many
fashion victims out there. Also I’m trying to build an empire.
I want to see my Logo on the top of a tall building in Manhattan. Knowing
that people are having the time of there lives for the moment they are
rocking my gear.
BLU: You always here about ppl making
and the terrible jobs they had prior to, have you had any terrible jobs?
LP: I haven’t had any terrible jobs.
BLU: Why should I wear Lexx Perry clothing?
LP: You should wear Lexx Perry because
it’s the hottest new Clothing line. Every designer always designs
bringing us back to the 80's and 70's. I’m tired of that. They
have been bringing shit back since I was born. Its time for something
new. People have never seen anything like mine before. It’s absolutely
original and it’s worth the money. I have a new material that
I developed and everything is heavily adorned with swarovski crystals
in Tiffany settings. I have premium denim for women and Men. My hoodies
have 600-800 Crystals on it. It’s not over priced like other premium
goods. My clothes are one of the finer things in life. It makes you
feel euphoric when people see you in it and admire you. Red Monkey charge
$800 for some embroidered pocket. Have you seen a Lexx Perry pocket
in real life? My pockets look like money. When you wear my clothes,
you can literally walk beside the stars and people will think you are
one, as well. I get asked which celebrity I am, literally all over the
world
BLU: Do you plan on starting a plus-size
or kid line?
LP: I do intend of extending my women’s
sizes to plus size. I do currently have women’s luxury stretch
skinny fits from waist 26 to 34. I am also developing ideas, as well.
BLU: Anything you want to say or add?
LP: Id like to thank you for taking the
time out for doing this interview with me, and id just like everyone
to know that I don’t play with fashion. If you want some serious
wear, you need to link lexx.... [hit me up] http:// www.lexxperry.com
